This piece represents the weight women bear daily in the form of labels, stereotypes and insults.
The design features a coronation gown which in reality can weigh up to 26 pounds making them unbearably heavy to wear and walk in. These garments were placed ceremoniously upon a woman’s shoulders upon taking the crown, a decision made for them and often against their choice.
The gown features a repeating custom designed crown design into which key words and phrases are set. The gown is trimmed with a vivid purple fur – traditionally associated with royalty and in place of the traditional ermine tails are gold ribbons bearing choice words in metallic beading.
